About

Daniel Cavicchi is Associate Professor of American Studies and Head of the Department of History, Philosophy, and the Social Sciences at Rhode Island School of Design. His books include Listening and Longing: Music Lovers in the Age of Barnum, Tramps Like Us: Music and Meaning Among Springsteen Fans, and (as co-editor) My Music: Explorations of Music in Daily Life. His public work has included the curriculum accompanying Martin Scorsese's The Blues film series; Songs of Conscience, Sounds of Freedom, an inaugural exhibit at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles; and other projects with the Public Broadcasting System and the National Park Service. He is currently the Series Editor of Music/Interview, a new book series from Wesleyan University Press, and an Executive Board Member of the Public Domain Foundation, assisting its efforts to develop national programming on music and social change. In addition to several research grants and awards, he is the recipient of both the President's Award for Excellence in Teaching from Brown University and the John R. Frazier Award for Excellence in Teaching from Rhode Island School of Design.
